Home office centre

Working at home with small children presents many obstacles. Encourage children to practise their reading, writing and labelling skills by letting them play in their own 'home office'.

What this activity will develop:
Reading and thinking skills

What you'll need:

  • Paper clips
  • Erasers
  • Pens, pencils
  • Glue sticks
  • Elastic bands
  • Paper (lined and unlined)
  • Sticky notes

Setting up:
Set up an office centre for the children to use during quiet work time. Equip the office with as many supplies as you can; for example, paper clips, erasers, pencils, pens, markers, sticky notes, glue sticks, elastic bands, lined and unlined paper.

What to do:
Collect small boxes and give children the assignment of labelling them with the names of the materials they want to put in them. Encourage the children to work in the office whenever they have 'paperwork' to do. Repeat the names of the office supplies whenever possible.
