New CGI animated Mickey Mouse on TV for first time to make numeracy fun

Mickey Mouse, the world's best-loved Disney animated character, is to appear in Disney's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, airing everyday on Playhouse Disney. Featuring an exciting new computer-generated 3D look, Mickey Mouse will help young children aged between two and five-years-old learn how to solve problems and understand easy mathematics in a fun and entertaining way.

This is the first television series starring Mickey and friends in 3D computer-generated animation and although the genre is contemporary, the series' designs are referential to the classic drawings of the 1940s. Each episode has Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto and Daisy interacting with the children and encouraging them to use basic skills such as identifying shapes and patterns, counting to ten, and learning colours.

Rob Gilby, VP and MD of Disney Channels UK, Scandinavia and Middle East, comments: 'Everybody loves Mickey Mouse and there's no one better to help get pre-school children excited about learning maths. Having looked at children's programming, we felt that there was a need for a programme like this. With Disney's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse we've developed a programme that focuses on maths skills in an educational and fun way.'

Eileen Hayes, parenting author and expert adds: 'It's never too early to introduce children to numeracy and it's important for parents to inspire kids to want to learn by making it enjoyable and fun. Much can be learnt through play and by watching programmes like Disney's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, it is amazing just what kids can pick up from an early age. They can quickly get to grips with sequencing and basic counting, as well as addition and subtraction, and this will aid their long-term learning.'

Every episode starts off in Mickey's magical Clubhouse, where rooms evolve into different spaces for crafts, storytelling and music. Some stories take viewers to nearby locations such as the Forest, Mountains or the River, while others take them to far-flung parts of the world including distant planets and galaxies. Episodes also look at re-telling classic fairy tales such as Jack & the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood.

Playhouse Disney is now available to all Sky Digital subscribers with the 'Kids Mix', and as a part of ntl Family pack and Telewest Supreme pack.
