Vegetable patterns
Patterning skills are an important precursor to maths and reading concepts. They help organise young children's observations about the things around them. It's important to reinforce their patterns by having them say the patterns out loud.
What this activity will develop:
Maths and thinking skills
What you'll need:
- Carrots
- Peppers
- Cucumbers
What to do:
Put out several each of two different-coloured raw vegetables, perhaps carrots and cucumbers. Ask your child to put the vegetables in a row, one after the other, to make a pattern. Say the pattern as you point to each vegetable. Then have your child look for other patterns to make: two carrots, one cucumber, two carrots, one cucumber and so on.
