Wallpaper pattern cards
These wallpaper playing cards are fun to make and can be used in a variety of ways to develop visual acuity and discrimination.
What this activity will develop:
Maths, social, art and thinking skills
What you'll need:
- Wallpaper samples
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Glue
- Large envelope
What to do:
- Cut circles, rectangles, and squares from various wallpaper patterns.
- Cut the cardboard into cards.
- Glue the wallpaper shapes on the cards, making pairs of cards that are exactly the same in shape and pattern.
Rules of play:
- Lay the pattern cards face-up on a table or the floor. Find the identical pairs. Place the pairs to the side until all the cards have been matched.
- Arrange some of the cards in rows of patterns and challenge someone to complete the patterns using the other cards.
- Play Pattern Concentration. Place the cards face-down in rows. Players take turns turning over two cards. If the cards match, the player keeps them and gets another turn. If the cards don't match, the player turns them over and the next player takes a turn. The player with the most pairs at the end wins.
