Finger balance

This art project is a quick and easy way to demonstrate the concept of balance. Add this trick to a repertoire of amateur magic.

What this activity will develop:
Motor, art and science skills

What you'll need:

• Bottle cork, 5cm diameter
• Nail
• 2 small knitting needles

What to do:

1. Poke the nail into the centre of the wide end of the cork.

2. Carefully push a knitting needle into each side of the cork near the narrow end.

How to use:

1. Balance the nail on your finger.

2. Try using knitting needles of a different size to see if the cork will still balance as well.
