Occupations

This challenging game will help children develop their language skills through description and association. This would be a fun activity for a picnic.

What this activity will develop:
Listening, language and thinking skills

What you'll need:

  • Paper and pencil for each player
  • Chalk and blackboard

What to do:

  1. Each player writes a common occupation at the top of the paper. (See the occupations list.) Below the occupation, the player writes five words commonly associated with the occupation. For example, if the occupation were teacher, the player might write the following words: children, books, blackboard, classroom.

  2. The first player chosen is the Occupation Person. The Occupation Person picks someone to be the Interviewer.

  3. The Interviewer uses the Occupation Person's list to ask questions, without using any of the words on the list. For example, the Interviewer could ask, 'Do you work during the summer?' or 'Do you read stories to young people?'. The Interviewer could not ask, 'Do you work with children?' or 'Do you read books?'.

  4. The other players try to guess the occupation from the questions and answers. The first player to guess becomes the next Occupation Person.
