Help discover the next generation of David Hockneys with Get Creative, Persil's new scheme for UK schools

class1

In today's pre- and primary schools, art education is treated as a luxury - art teachers often struggle on limited budgets. It's a real shame, because art can play an important role in a child's development by encouraging play, problem solving, experimentation and expression. That's why Persil have created Get Creative - a new scheme devised to supplement the limited art and crafts resources in pre- and primary schools throughout the UK.

By collecting Persil Stars from the back of most Persil packs, you can help your child's class or school get their share of at least £7m worth of free art and craft classroom kits. That means doubling the available resources in some schools!

But the benefits of Get Creative reach far beyond the £1.57 made available to each of the UK's 4.45 million children in nursery and primary education. The scheme aims to help develop the next generation of artistic starlets to uphold the UK's reputation for producing some of the most creative minds in the world.

To see how Get Creative is already performing in the classroom, Persil visited St Michael's school in Tilehurst, Berkshire. The team from Persil spent the morning with the eight- and nine-year-olds as they experimented with line making, drawing influence from masters David Hockney and Van Gogh.

'The limited budget I receive for materials doesn't go very far when you have 200 children,' explains Mrs Griffin, St Michael's art teacher. 'Art is all about freedom and Persil's Get Creative scheme allows us to be more spontaneous with the materials we have, which is an important part of art education.'
