Pasta with Asparagus Cream Sauce

300g dried pasta sprials (stortelli)
- 250g asparagus
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 300ml double or whipping cream
- 50g freshly grated parmesan cheese
- salt and freshly ground black pepper
- tomato salad, to serve

- Bring a large saucepan of salted water to the boil and cook the pasta spirals for minutes.
- Meanwhile, break each asparagus stalk into pieces, discarding the woody ends of the stalks. Add to the pasta and cook for a further minutes.
- While this is cooking, heat the oil in a small frying pan and cook the onion until lightly golden. Add the cream and bring to a simmer.
- Drain the pasta and asparagus. Return to the pan and add the cream mixture, parmesan and plenty of pepper. Mix well and serve at once with a tomato salad if you like.
