Place your bets now

It’s almost time to meet the new baby and to place bets on whether it’s a boy or a girl! I secretly think it’s a girl because this pregnancy has been similar to my first. I’m also carrying in a similar way. So it has to be a girl, right?
We’ve got both boys and girls names sorted. I’ve washed both pink and blue clothes. I haven’t yet packed my hospital bag, but when I do I shall include pink and boy and yellow clothes. I will plan for all possibilities and yet I still believe it is a girl...
This could be dangerous. It’s not that I would be disappointed to have a boy. Quite the opposite in fact. I know from first-hand experience that boys can be incredibly loving, fascinating and amazing little people. I also know that girls can be too. The reason I think this could be dangerous is that I secretly truly believe it is a girl. I think I will be really shocked if a boy pops out instead!
But that’s the beauty of denying the lure of the gender scan, in my eyes. It has been a great source of amusement and excitement, not knowing which ‘colour’ in lurking inside there with each kick and squirm. It has been lovely thinking of names and wondering whether we will be looking forward to more toy cars or more baby dollies. Not that we are gender specific with the kids’ toys, but you know what I mean.
Now that the section date has been confirmed, not knowing the baby’s sex is even more special. Now, we have at least one surprise to announce to friends and families. Yes, they may know when we are having our baby, but they will have to wait for us to tell them the gender.
So, place your bets now. Boy or girl?
