Do I have to take the triple test?

by Christine Hill

question

I have been booked in for my blood test at 15 weeks to ensure my pregnancy is progressing well. I am 27 years old and quite healthy. Is it important to have this test? I am not sure wheather to have it or not. Thanks

answer

The triple blood test at 15 weeks is a risk assessment test to see what the likelihood is of your baby having a chromosome abnormality or spina bifida. You certainly don?t have to have this test, and it won?t tell you anything for definite. But as there is no risk to you or your baby if you have a sample of your blood taken, it would seem to be a sensible precaution. I do hope all goes well for you. Christine Hill.
