Nausea at ovulation

by Peg Plumbo

question
Can a person suffer a form of ‘morning sickness’ while ovulating? In the last few months, I have been feeling very queasy at the time that I should be ovulating.

answer
This is a common symptom of ovulation, sometimes to the extent that women vomit, but usually less severely than occurs during pregnancy. Often, women don't realise that this is cyclic, happening at mid-cycle.

Occasionally, women undergoing fertility treatment or hormonal treatment are more susceptible to nausea during ovulation, as are women on other drugs such as anti-inflammatory medication or those taking large doses of vitamin C. Of course, it's a good idea to have this checked out by your GP if it continues.
