Pregnant after using withdrawal method?

by Peg Plumbo

question
We recently had sex and my partner withdrew, although I could feel some fluid inside my vagina. Now I think I'm pregnant, but I don't remember when my last period was. I have no signs except that I've been feeling sick for the past week.

answer
Withdrawal as a method of birth control is not reliable nor does it protect you against sexually transmitted diseases.

It is very important that you take a pregnancy test as soon as possible and if it is positive, discuss the outcome with your GP, who can talk to you about your options. If you are not pregnant, you must get some reliable method of birth control. Again your GP can discuss the various methods available and which one would suit you best.

Above all, don't panic. Find someone who you can confide in and take one step at a time.

I wish you the best.
