Twins and maternity leave

question
I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant with twins. I'm getting very tired as my pregnancy progresses. When is the best time to go on maternity leave?

answer

Sorry to learn that you are getting tired. Many mums do say this happens earlier with a multiple pregnancy. Make sure that you rest whenever you can, especially at weekends. Remember, you are entitled to take time off to visit the antenatal clinic.

Your doctor or midwife can supply a form MAT B1 from your 26th week. You send this with a letter to your employer. The earliest you can start your actual leave is 11 weeks before the week your baby is due.

If you are too ill to work you should take sick leave, pregnancy-related sick leave must be counted separate from the rest of your absence. Also ensure your employer is meeting his Health and Safety obligations towards you.
