Starting maternity leave

by The Maternity Alliance

question
I’ve been off sick for most of my pregnancy. Can I still choose when to start my maternity leave?

answer
Not if your sickness is related to your pregnancy in which case your employers can ‘trigger’ you onto maternity leave when you are 34 weeks pregnant. However, if your sickness is unrelated to your pregnancy you can still choose when your maternity leave begins.
