Cyst while pregnant
I am 22 weeks pregnant and have a cyst on my left ovary. My doctor said it is a simple growth and a common problem. I was referred to a specialist and he recommended seeing me again when I am 37 weeks pregnant as he said the worry was whether the baby's head could engage or not. Can the cyst become malignant or could it grow bigger and squash the baby?
The ultrasound scan will certainly have been accurate. The fact that you have been told that the cyst is 'simple' is reassuring too.
There will not be any problems with your baby's head being squashed The only obstetric problem is the possibility of
an 'obstructed labour' involving the cyst, your baby's head and the pelvic outlet part of the birth canal in the early part of labour. Your consultant will anticipate this at that later examination you mentioned, and a decision will be made.
There are many types of simple, benign cysts of the ovary - and obviously your health professionals are quite happy with the diagnosis that has been made.
So try not to worry and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Good luck, I hope all goes well for you.
