Air travel: Safe during pregnancy?
I'm in my third week of a Clomid-aided pregnancy. My job requires me to travel in Asia for the next two weeks. My work won't be strenuous, but I'm worried about flying. I have heard Clomid pregnancies have a higher chance of ending in miscarriage. How dangerous is it for someone in my condition to fly?
My recommendation would be to look at the factors in your life that may play a part in your decision. How does your partner feel about your travel? How much stress might you encounter on the trip? Can you take frequent rest breaks? What kind of stress would you be under if you had to cancel? Will you be able to drink plenty of fluids and eat well? What if you suffer from nausea and other discomforts of early pregnancy? How well might you cope with these possibilities occurring away from home and your support system? If you miscarried, would you feel guilty and be unable to forgive yourself?
Clinically speaking, I don't believe you can cause a miscarriage by travelling, but any associated stress, dehydration or inattention to possible warning signs could be a problem. So, dont ignore signs or symptoms that worry you. Seek advice before you travel.
While it is true that pregnancies induced by the fertility drug Clomid may be at some increased risk of miscarriage, it may be due to the underlying ovarian dysfunction, which needed the Clomid in the first instance, not the Clomid itself.
