Smoking - quitting when you’re pregnant

by Dr Howard Lee

question
I am pregnant and trying to quit smoking. I am finding it very hard, but really want to stop. I need some additional help. Where can I find it?

answer
Well done, however old you are, it is ‘never too late’. It is, as you say, very hard for some people: after all, it is an addiction. Most areas run classes and these are often led by Health Visitors at GP surgeries or health centres. You may have tried various methods already, such as acupuncture or hypnotherapy, and may even have tried the various ‘nicotine’ products, like Nicorette patches and chewing gum. However, see what help your surgery offers and stick to your decision. You will never regret ‘giving up’ – good luck.
