Can I claim anything if I live apart from my parents?
During pregnancy: You cannot claim benefits until you are 16 (apart from Maternity Allowance if you have been working). If you live away from your parents or guardians, social services are responsible for you.
After the birth: Once your baby is born you can claim Child Benefit. Social services are responsible for you until you are 16 and you are not entitled to claim any other benefits in your own right.
Can I claim anything if I live with my boyfriend?
During pregnancy: Your partner will not be able to claim extra money for you while you are pregnant. If your partner is working he may be entitled to claim HB to help with rent.
After the birth: You or your partner can claim Child Benefit once your baby is born. If your partner is claiming benefits and he makes the claim for Child Benefit then he should be able to claim extra Child Tax Credit for your baby. He will also be entitled to Housing Benefit (HB) and Council Tax Benefit (CTB) to cover the rent and council tax.
If your partner is working he may be able to claim WTC. He may also be able to claim HB and CTB. He will not be able to claim the Sure Start Maternity Grant because you are too young to count as a member of his family.
You will be entitled to Care to Learn? Funding to pay for childcare while you are at school.
If your partner is unable to provide for you and your baby, you should contact social services for help as you cannot claim benefits yourself until you are 16.
