Can women contract any diseases, like HIV, from giving birth in the water?

answer
You certainly can't catch the AIDS virus from giving birth in water. Provided the birthing pool is clean and you have an experienced midwife in attendance, I cannot see why you should be any more at risk of catching an infection than you would be if you had your baby on land. Hospitals take great care to minimise any risk of infection to you and your baby.
