Pregnancy - when to tell your child
I have just found out Im pregnant with my second child. How and when should I tell my three-year-old son?
Congratulations. I should tell your son as soon as you are past the fourteen weeks mark. (You then know your pregnancy should be reasonably stable.) Then tell him in a low-key, no big fuss, but definitely good news way. He needs a bit of time for the information to sink in.
A little later, it might be a good idea to explain that you are going to need a rest during the day, so the baby can grow. Therefore, he needs to get used to having a quiet time after lunch (if he has grown out of a daytime nap), as this is going to be a pattern for the next few months. You will then be able to rest or nap yourself, before and after you have had the baby. When your baby has been born, your son wont be able to spend as much time with you, so towards the end of your pregnancy, make sure he gets used to being with other people, especially your partner.
