Cervix is backwards
I am 21, in good physical shape and three to four weeks pregnant. My doctor has told me in the past that my cervix is backwards. Will this affect my pregnancy or delivery? Also, my cycle has been extremely irregular since I stopped taking the pill six months ago after using it for five years.
As a pregnancy progresses, the uterus enlarges and takes on a middle position as it rises into the abdominal cavity.
Very rarely, the uterus becomes incarcerated and does not rise into a mid-line position. The pregnancy can miscarry if this does not correct itself. However, this is extremely rare.
I imagine that by 10 to 12 weeks, your uterus will no longer be tipped backwards and the cervix will then be located centrally in the vagina. This should cause no difficulty for the pregnancy or for labour and birth.
Your irregular cycles may affect your due date because it is not clear if you ovulated on day 14. Estimated due dates are based on a 28-day cycle, and if you did not ovulate in mid cycle, conception could have taken place later. This would make your due date later. If a woman has, for example, a 35-day cycle, we would calculate her due date based on a 28-day cycle then add one week.
I hope you have a happy pregnancy.
