Behaviour concerns in toddler

Our four-and-a-half year old did something totally out of character today. He absolutely loves frogs and lizards. Today, he killed a frog on purpose. Needless to say I was surprised and appalled at the same time. I put him in think time and took away his outside privilege for the remainder of the day (it was 3.30pm). Is this behaviour something I should be concerned about? How should I handle it? I am expecting a baby and am wondering if this might be a factor. Please help because I’m really upset by this behaviour.
