Travels with your children
Stomach upsets and diarrhoea.
Children are particularly vulnerable to travellers diarrhoea (TD). Infants seem to be at greater risk of infection; especially if theyre on formula feeds. The TD disease seems to be more persistent in one and two-year olds, where vomiting and diarrhoea can quickly cause dehydration. When dealing with food abroad you can reduce the risk of infection by following the maxim; boil it, peel it or forget it!
Dont give children anti-diarrhoea medication
Rehydration is the mainstay of treatment, and so its wise to take packets of rehydration powder with you on holiday. These can be mixed up with cooled, boiled water and sipped gradually. Several varieties are available, including Diocalm Replenish, Dioralyte (natural & flavoured) and Dioralyte Relief.
