Guthrie test
Examination of a drop of blood to exclude the presence of phenylketonuria. This is a rare metabolic disorder, which has severe consequences in terms of mental handicap unless the child receives a special diet from an early age. It is performed on the sixth or seventh day of life, once milk feeding has been established.
