She loves shopping - clothes, shoes, handbags... even the indent you get on your hand from carrying too many hangers to the changing room. And while she knows her PPQ from her Primark, that doesn't mean she can afford it. This is TV presenter Cat Cubie's irreverent and entertaining insight to the world of fashion...
Present times
Where on earth has this year gone? I can’t believe it’s only two and a half weeks until Christmas already! The snow has definitely helped to put me in the mood (and a few cheeky mulled wines) but it goes without saying that my shopping is way behind schedule.
Ok, I know this isn’t therapy but I have to admit something to you guys. The reason my present buying takes me so long is that I get distracted. Not from the shopping itself. Heavens no. But, and here it goes, I end up looking for myself. Trying clothes on. Prancing around, imagining myself at Christmas parties standing around a piano, singing carols. I have no idea why; I have never actually done this. I think I might have seen it on a Christmas card once. Anyway, I digress, how on earth does Santa do it?
With only around 14 shopping days left until the big day I have decided I need a plan and an embargo on frocks until under the Christmas tree is fully stocked. So, dear readers, to avoid temptation (by looking at all the lovely things I could be buying) I have decided to give you my fashion family-friendly list of Christmas treats. For others!
THE BOY
He needs some style direction. When better to give it than as a gift? ;-) I love this military style coat from ASOS men -->
At least he’ll arrive well dressed.
MY SIS
She has two young kids and despite a penchant for the trends hasn’t indulged in a while. Given what I said recently about lace, I’ve found these gorgeous party clutch bags from www.missguided.co.uk for only 16 quid. Frankly, it would be rude not to.
BIG BRO
I tend to go for joke presents, to get him back for the years of banter and all the times he said ‘this is a new headlock I’ve just learnt at Judo’. There’s a great website called www.santasballs.co.uk which has some fun, alternative festive decorations!
THE POPS
My Dad is a distinguished sort of a chap and loves a suit and tie. However, I think he’d suit something a little more fashion forward so I’ll be checking out some of the fab men’s knitwear in Zara for Daddy dearest!
MUM
Although a shopping addiction is perhaps not hereditary, my Mum does like to dabble so I’ve found some gorgeous silk scarves at Hobbs (http://www.hobbs.co.uk). Ideal.
BFF
My mum always said you should give gifts you would like to receive yourself so this one is going to be easy. High on the wish list are a pair of ankle boots from Office, some sparkly things from Freedom jewellery for Topshop, a satchel from Primark (there are some cracking designer copies in just now) and this gorgeous liberty purse from Pepperminttwist.co.uk.
So there’s the list, and needless to say it needs to be wrapped up pretty quickly!
