Pregnancy week 41

A week by week guide to what’s happening to you and your baby

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH YOU

Only about five per cent of babies are born on their actual due-date. If you have had prior pregnancies that went postdate, you may be more likely to experience the same thing with subsequent babies.

Seventy per cent of pregnancies that go post-term are actually dated incorrectly from the start.

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH YOUR BABY

In general, overdue babies who are still in a healthy environment weigh more. They may appear more alert than babies born earlier and have more hair than usual. Your baby will be born when it is ready. Take this time to rest and prepare.

HEALTHY EATING

For a treat why not send out for a curry take-away? It has been said that spicy food can trigger labour...

FACT OF THE WEEK

After week 41 of your pregnancy, your obstetrician may offer to induce labour. Discuss your options and carefully weigh the pros and cons of this procedure. If the uterine environment is healthy and you and your baby are doing well there may not be a good medical reason for an induction at this time.

If you're still holding on - here's what week 42 might hold in store.
