If the harmful effects of the sun, chlorine and numerous bouts of blow drying have wreaked havoc on your hair the past few months, don't despair. iVillage staff found relief for their lagging locks in the following hair conditioners.
- Boots' Botanics Hair Conditioner; £2.99/250ml. This thick conditioner made my hair soft and I really liked the smell. Most importantly, it banished tangles and made my hair easier to manage. I liked the full-bodied bounciness I got from this product, and I would certainly buy it again.
- Bumble and Bumble Seaweed Hair Conditioner; £8.95/237ml. This product was a bit light for my thick, curly hair, but it would make a good daily rinse for someone with thinner hair. I left it in for about five minutes before rinsing, and it did help get the tangles out of my hair. The conditioner smelled quite fresh and it did a fair job without weighing down my locks. I've used the Bumble and Bumble range before, but while I really like their styling products I'm not crazy about their shampoos or conditioners.
- Clinique Hair Care Quick Detangle Light Conditioner; £8/200ml. 'Gorgeous smell' is the first thought that comes to mind for this product. It helped eliminate tangles and left my hair smooth, soft and extremely easy to style. Plus, it had the added bonus of making my hair feel really clean. I would definitely buy this conditioner again.
- Garnier Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner - Ultra Detangling for Medium-Long to Long Hair; £2.49/250ml. I really liked its consistency - on the thin side but not too heavy. I left the conditioner on for about a minute, and it worked quite quickly. Afterwards, my hair was easy to comb through. Overall, my hair felt nourished, shinier and the tips felt very smooth.
- Lancôme Fluance Soin Force Éclat des Cheveux; £22/200ml. I loved this product's thick and waxy consistency - it almost felt like a moisturiser. It had a sophisticated honey smell, which lasted all day. It conditioned and helped de-tangle my hair more than my current conditioner. I didn't find my hair was easier to style, but it made it feel quite thick. I liked this product, but because of the price I'd probably only buy it as a treat if my hair needed drastic action. It felt like a luxury product - the packaging was a lovely, shallow, screw top pot like a moisturiser - so it felt special.
- L'Óreal Elvive Citrus - CR Revitalising Conditioner for Normal Hair, Occasionally Greasy; £2.99/300ml. This is a perfect product for my hair because I use conditioner almost everyday and this is quite thin and light. I got several comments on how nice my hair smelled - very citrusy and fresh. My hair felt soft and tangle-free, but I'm not sure it helped when styling - my hair is quite long and fine. I suppose because it felt so soft and shiny I didn't really need to do much with it. This conditioner would be good for frequent use because it's made for oily hair and conditions without too much residue. I have bought this product frequently and I like it because I can use it often without making my hair look flat or greasy.
- Pantene Pro-V Smooth and Sleek Conditioner; £2.99/400ml. I quite liked it, but this conditioner may have been too heavy for me. It was quite thick and creamy and my hair felt almost over conditioned. I liked the smooth de-tangling effect of this product, but it left some residue despite thorough rinsing. It made my hair dull and flat rather than easier to style. I wouldn't buy this product because it doesn't suit my hair type. It would be better suited to someone with very dry hair.
- Superdrug Naturals Camomile; £1.39/300ml. This product was very thick - it verged on being a bit lumpy. It adequately conditioned my hair, but left it feeling a bit greasy at the roots. However, the rest of my hair was soft and easy to brush. The camomile enhanced my blonde hair, which was great. I would have preferred to use the Naturals Camomile Shampoo in conjunction with the conditioner, as I feel they would work best together. Overall it did the job, even though my hair felt a bit sticky after a couple of rinses. I'd buy this product, but probably only if I was on a tight budget.
- Tommy's 'Well Adjusted' Hair Conditioner by Tommy Hilfiger; £8/250ml. This product, not unlike most conditioners, was relatively thick and quite hard to get out of the bottle. I usually get comments about how nice my hair smells when I use my current conditioner, but it wasn't the case this time, which was a bit disappointing. It did, however, make my hair feel softer than usual. I am a quick blow dry-and-run kind of girl, however after washing my hair in a hurry with this conditioner it looks more full-bodied and bouncy than normal. If I bought it, I'd make sure I also got the shampoo to get the full effect.
- Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Energising Conditioner; £8/250ml. I have mixed feelings about this product. At first, it under-conditioned and left my hair looking crazy, but after a week of use it had a nice effect on my hair. It's a very light conditioner and would be highly suitable for people with fine, thin or very short hair (it's not really for thick dry hair, unless you use it everyday). Despite the peculiar green colour, the conditioner smells delicious - although the smell does not stay in my hair after drying. My hair feels softer, lighter and more moisturised than usual. I probably wouldn't buy this particular conditioner, however, because the colour is too funky for me in the morning.
