Aries travel profile
Aries are the pioneers of the Zodiac and this is certainly true where travel is concerned. Ever on the go and seeking action, the Ram is a moving target. 'What am I going to do today? Is it hot? Risky? Different?' These are the kinds of questions Aries will ask themselves when they're on the road. And don't expect them to wait around very long for an answer, as they'll soon be somewhere else. Those born under the first Sign of the Zodiac want to learn a little about a lot - they might like to know straightforward facts like who built those pyramids in Egypt, and when, but they will probably leave the why to someone else.

Hopping from one place (and adventure) to the next, the Ram sets the agenda and expects others to follow it. No takers? Well, Aries are happy to travel alone, in which case they'll seek some company along the way, even if only for a meal or a night. Given their sexy style, it would be a waste to spend every night alone. Again, the stimulation of new people and new places is what the Ram craves when travelling, and the more active the journey, the better.

Taurus travel profile
Slow and steady sums up a Taurus on the road. The Bull is a careful planner, knowing full well what's needed to make a trip both successful and worth their time. Taking a trip is no small task for these people, which means they wouldn't think twice about spending a year planning the perfect excursion, poring over stacks of travel books to map their dream itinerary. Does this mean a trip with a Taurus will end up being 'my way or the highway?' Well, they don't call them bull-headed for nothing. That said, pampered (and pampering) Taureans are likely to set an agenda that's rife with sensual pleasures - top hotels, great meals and a night at the opera are all to be expected.

The Bull will also spend a pretty penny while on the road, although probably not more than their bank account can handle. Is it likely that Taureans will wait a lifetime for that six-month whirl around the world? Maybe. But for these people, the trip will be everything they want (and need) when they finally get there.

Gemini travel profile
Weekend getaways were clearly designed with a Gemini in mind. No fan of long, drawn-out excursions, the Twins much prefer to hop into the car, get to where they're going and madly sightsee once they're there. Sitting around on a beach is for everyone else, thank you very much. Intellectually curious Geminis are always eager to learn from their travels, and one of the best ways to do this is by talking to the people at their destination. Who better to offer some local colour and insight?

Those born under this sign don't feel a need to get every last bit of information while travelling, either - a quick glimpse into things is enough, and then it's off to the next place or activity on the agenda. Will there be much in the Gemini's travel bag? Unlikely - their luggage will be as light as Air, the element that rules their sign.

The Twins are also good to have along on a group tour, as they have a knack for synthesizing chunks of information and making it easily understandable. Consider them a pocket tour guide. Those born under this sign are also streetwise and possessed of good common sense, an ideal combination for the intrepid traveller.

Cancer travel profile
Armchair travel may have been invented for Cancerians, all the better to stay safe and warm in their trusty shells. Not the most adventurous members of the Zodiac, those born under this sign are happy to stay at home, or they'll generally go somewhere close to home when they do venture out. And you can bet they won't go alone - the whole family comes along when the Crab travels, providing the emotional security these people seek. It's very possible that the entire clan will cram into a big caravan and hit the road.

This 'home away from home' will also possess some of the comforts of home, such as favourite pillows, blankets and foods. The dog will be snuggled in the back while Grandpa chats about the good old days. There's no place like home to the Crab, so any journey must recreate home and hearth as much as possible.

Although nurturing souls, Cancerians can also be strong-willed, so it's they who'll set the agenda when travelling. They're not likely to spend a lot of money on a trip, either, as the Crab knows the value of a pound. 'Sentimental Journey' describes the Crab to a T: when the route feels good, they'll do it?but only then.

Leo travel profile
Who is that stepping from that gilded carriage? Royalty? A world leader? No, it's probably just a Leo. Those born under this Sign know how to travel in style, and if it's not in a Cinderella-like carriage, it's probably via the Orient Express or Concorde. Lions love to be treated like royalty because in their eyes, they're just that. When they hit the road, it's first-class all the way.

Bigger is always better for the Lion, so think of the Grand Tour, a hacienda in Cuernavaca or a private Greek island. And while Leos are possessed of considerable physical strength and stamina, they'd much rather have a car and driver take them from one splendid sight to the next. Organised and creative as they are, Leos love to set the agenda when travelling, and it's bound to be a good one.

They'll also travel with a few friends in tow, the better for all to see what shining stars they are. Royalty needs its court, after all. They won't dawdle over any one part of the journey, either - a quick peek at the 'Mona Lisa' is enough, just enough to tell the people back at home about it. Travel for Leos is all about ease, which is why they pack all those credit cards. Someone will worry about the bill later.

Virgo travel profile
Anyone travelling with a Virgo need not wear a watch since the Virgin has an internal (and external) clock that ticks along on time. When travelling, the Virgin can jump out of bed at 7am, make a 7.35am train, pull into the station at the scheduled 8.32am and know that the next bus is due in seven minutes. Is this even fun? For a Virgo it is, since those born under this sign are highly organised and love a routine, even when travelling.

Better yet, call it a rhythm, for hitting the road with these people will be a delicious mix of sightseeing, fact finding and good, clean fun. And heaven help the one who upsets the apple cart. Virgos love this sense of order, thank you very much, meticulously planning their trips well in advance. These people want to experience as many things as possible and will try to fit it all in on every trip, the better to get their money's worth.

The major museums would certainly be visited in Florence, while the best fajitas would be savoured in Mexico. Looks count too, which is why the Virgin's luggage is always nice and the day's attire is both clean and ironed. Although they enjoy travelling with a partner, Virgos are also perfectly happy to hit the road alone. Whatever the case, it will be a sensible journey.

Libra travel profile
Taking the focus off themselves and aiming it at others is what Librans are all about and that certainly applies when they're on the road. Those born under this sign are loath to travel alone, much preferring the company of another, especially their partner. And you can bet these people will be in synch with their travelling companion. 'If you're happy, I'm happy,' is a common refrain from a Libran on the road. Much like the Scales that represent them, Librans seek harmony and balance when travelling.

Consequently, it's likely that a Libran on the road will have an agenda that matches their mate's, as they work to avoid conflict at all costs. And speaking of cost, an excursion with the Scales will cost a pretty penny. Librans simply adore luxury, ruled as they are by Venus, the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Pleasure - five-star hotels and the best food and wine are only the beginning. Someone had better have deep pockets or plenty of plastic to finance this journey.

The Scales also have to look good in order to feel good when on the road. Their sociable natures will also take them to many glittering events, so a pressed tux or twinkling evening gown will be in that bag. And will they chat everyone up when they get there? Absolutely!

Scorpio travel profile
Scorpio is that mysterious stranger on the train. Those born under this sign are truly go-anywhere, do-anything kind of people - the seamier, the better. Sex shops in Amsterdam would be a natural for a Scorpio, seeing as this is the Sign of Sex and Death. Kink will always be 'in' with the Scorpion, but the passion within also runs to any unusual life experience. The destination doesn't have to be pretty, just anywhere interesting lessons can be learned.

In the end, that's really what the travelling Scorpion is all about: the experience. Ruled by Pluto, the planet of regeneration, Scorpions will internalise much from their travels and are likely to return a different person. Hard-to-pin-down Scorpios prefer to travel alone, but when they do opt for a group it's a given that their agenda rules. Not only do Scorpions like to get their way, they also want their experiences to be utterly complete. Thankfully, these people are resourceful and will always have the means (whether by money or intelligence) to get what they want. For the passionate Scorpion, travel is yet another of life's seductive charms.

Sagittarius travel profile
Was Dr. Livingstone a Sagittarian? He certainly could have been, for he epitomises a key characteristic of those born under this sign: explorer. Many Sagittarians dream of going where no one else has been before. As the Sign of Travel, Sagittarians love nothing more than hitting the road in search of knowledge and adventure. The Archer needs to experience things first-hand in order to have a good time. Tales of monks in Tibet are useless unless the Archer can break bread with these learned men - then and only then will it all make sense. Philosophers that they are, Sagittarians crave a journey of discovery. You'll never find these people at Disneyland, since they'd much rather be muck raking in Bolivia or exploring the wilds of Mozambique.

Solo travel also suits these pioneers of the Zodiac - a good thing since it would be difficult for others to keep up with them. Imagine the young lad with a knapsack on his back, leaving home in search of wide-eyed adventure...that's a Sag. Once on the road, Sagittarians seek to expand their mind; if they can grasp the meaning of life along the way, even better. Travel and new experiences are very important to these people and their sociable natures dictate that they should have fun while they're at it.

Capricorn travel profile
Travelling in style is what Capricorns are all about, if you can get them on the road, that is. Those born under this sign are the worker bees of the Zodiac, mainly interested in working to make money and build an empire. If and when they do take a trip, though, Capricorns are highly organised, carefully planning the agenda beforehand. It will also be first-class all the way: These people are keenly interested in social status. No nouveau-riche posers here, since it's all tasteful and classically elegant with the wilful Sea Goat.

A tour of Europe's capitals is always high on the agenda. Capricorns are also fond of travelling in a group and won't shy away from leading the troops - or at least managing the finances. After all, they are first and foremost business people. It's also a given that there will be enough money on hand to pay for things now as opposed to later. The steady and devoted Sea Goat makes for an excellent travelling companion, too. Caps are exceedingly capable and are happy to shoulder the worries for the group, thereby making things easy for all. No, there won't be any wild adventures on the horizon with a Cap, but everyone should have a good time.

Aquarius travel profile
If you hit the road with an Aquarian, you'll be travelling with the trailblazer of the Zodiac. Those born under this sign are nothing if not different, willing to go anywhere, anytime, with anyone for almost any reason. If the reason feeds their social conscience, all the better, for Aquarians are great humanitarians and supremely interested in helping the less fortunate.

Saving the planet for the masses appeals enormously, too, so you're just as likely to find the Water Bearer in the rainforest of Brazil as in the wilds of Borneo - eco-travel was designed with these people in mind. Aquarians are also sociable creatures, quick to make friends and eager to share their worldview with them. Hence, it's likely that they'll travel with a group, and even if they're not the obvious leader of the pack you can bet they're controlling the agenda. If not, they won't play along.

One thing the Water Bearer doesn't want to handle is the small details - these people paint in broad brushstrokes, so it's best to leave the train schedules to someone else. As an Air sign, Aquarians crave mental stimulation, so these nomads need many and varied experiences while on the road. Visionaries that they are, they're also fascinated with new technologies, so there's bound to be a nifty gadget or two in their bag

Pisces travel profile
Pisceans are emblematic of the water sign and tend to go with the flow when travelling, never making waves. Consequently, there must be someone else leading the way or else the Fish will never get there. Those born under this Sign are the dreamers of the Zodiac, preferring to indulge their fantasies (and secrets) in an unconscious state.

When they do awaken, their focus is on seeing how they can be of service to others. It's this quality that takes the travelling Fish to places where they can work for people less fortunate than themselves. The Fish see no need to set the agenda when on the road, preferring to leave practical matters and budgetary concerns to their travelling companions. Dreamy as they are, it's essential that someone else create the structure.

What the Fish care about most is that their spirit is being soothed and that they're being useful in the world. To that end, meditative treks to India or Tibet are just the ticket.

Artistic as well, Pisceans would adore the opportunity to work with potters in Mexico or to play music in the Andes of Peru. Finally, these people love to be near water - would Fish crave anything else? This makes them a natural for swimming, diving or sailing excursions, the latter ideally suited to their penchant for daydreaming.
