Where shall I go on honeymoon?

iVillagers from the travel message board answer a member's request for a great honeymoon destination

Query
I am getting married next year and we are really unsure of where to go on our honeymoon. We've had loads of thoughts, from Cancun to Euro Disney. Can anyone offer some advice?

Advice
We got married last year and honeymooned in New Zealand and Fiji and had the time of our lives. Tickets can be expensive, but it's worth it, since the euro, pound and dollar go so much further over there. We were living the high life for three weeks with the awesome exchange rate.

I think the Canadian Rockies would be so romantic. I would start at Calgary, hire a car and drive the circle through Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. On the way to visiting the ice fields you should stay at the Num-te-jah Lodge near the ice fields. It is a large lodge surrounded by mountains, with good food, and it's so romantic. Then maybe a night of luxury in Chateau Lake Louise to finish off. Whatever you do, you will have the best time.

My husband and I went to Florida for our honeymoon; Disney first week and St Pete's beach for the second. We thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it was a bit unusual as we took our ten-year-old son with us. We also recently went on a Mediterranean cruise and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The value for money was excellent, entertainment was of a high standard, and the food was great and available 24/7. The only thing I will mention is that you may find the cabin and twin bunks a bit cramped for a honeymoon.

Last year we went to Zante in Greece and did a tour to Athens for a couple of nights, and then on to the island where Captain Corelli's Mandolin was filmed. It was very romantic and would make a great honeymoon location.

We did a quickie trip to Vegas for our honeymoon, with a plan of splashing out sometime over the next couple of years on a safari, or Hawaii, or maybe even China.

You might consider booking self-catering accommodation rather than a regular hotel. That way you can have a nice dinner or two but save big money on breakfast and lunch, which are usually times when you'd rather laze in bed or be out exploring than sitting down for a big meal.

I saw Niagara Falls from the Canadian side, when I was 16, and promised myself that if I ever got married I would go there for the honeymoon. It was so romantic and had loads of things to see and do in and around the area.

I'd highly recommend choosing somewhere where you can spend some quality time together alone. Life will get busy for the both of you afterwards, and you will do the couples socialising with couples thing and then the families socialising with families thing, so I would make sure that, for this one time, you have quality time just with each other.
