I trembled as I unfolded the letter. I was shocked, as I hadn't heard from Aunty since I was 12 years old. A sour woman, always checking my room for secrets. She terrified me into being mouse-like. I hated her. Now, I find myself reading words from her representative, saying, 'I, her favourite niece, will inherit half a million pounds.'

Mmmm, it' lovely and warm here today. the sun is shining and all I have to do is drink and play. Mum, can we go for a quick walk now? Or maybe a bit of window shopping? I'm bored with lying in the sun. Think I'll have as good time in the lovely sun once I am born?

Write a story in 60 words? Easy. I just need a bit of inspiration and focus. Hang on the phone's ringing. Right, where was I? A plot, I need a plot. Damn Coronation Street's on. OK here we go. Boy meets girl, they fight, make up, fall in love blah, blah, blah. Done. Ooh, is that the kettle? Tea anyone?

She heard his step before she saw him, sidling up the hall.
'And what time do you call this then?'
No answer.
'You treat this place like a hotel, coming and going as you please. That's it.I'm going to bed.' She promised herself this really would be the last time.
She must stop talking to the cat like that.

I am so cold, shivering so! Where is the sunshine and the gentle summer's breeze? I was so happy sitting among the daisies and few weeds. All that is left now is the cold and dark, this is how my life has ended - as a Frozen Pea.

I remembered our first meeting, a chance collision on a crowded beach. She knocked me off my feet. She was 'the one'.
I watch her now, leaning gratefully on her father. I stand beside her; she doesn't see me. I whisper to reassure her; she doesn't hear. She steps forward and tearfully places a single red rose on my coffin.

She was so beautiful, Derek had never dreamt this moment would happen, but he was ready. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, bent forward and pressed his lips to hers. It was the moment he had been waiting for.
Coughing up water, she opened her eyes. 'You saved my life?' she said.

Hungrily he watched her. His lust for blood needed to be satisfied. He would wait until she reached the alley and that's when he would pounce. Unaware, she began the short walk home. She screamed as he lunged at her.
'Stupid dog' she shouted as the dirty mongrel made off with her bag of black pudding.

'Push' he shouted at her.
'I'm trying' she screamed back as sweat poured from her brow.
'You're nearly there, one more push', he cried.
With her last ounce of breath, she pushed with all of her might, hoping that this would be it.
'You did it' he said.
'Next time the battery's flat, you're pushing and I'm steering', she replied. amandaw26

Dizzily she climbed the stairs of her new house. It was her first night and she was hearing noises coming from the bedroom. It was pitch black and she was breathing heavily. She reached for the bedroom door handle, she shakily turned the handle and pushed open the bedroom door. She gasped as she looked around and found... SPIDERS.

The mocking laughter of his classmates had resounded in his ears. 'You, a writer' they had sneered.
'If you write a book, I'll eat my hat' taunted the class bully. Now, years later, he was all set for his class reunion. 'What's with the hat Mr King? ' his housekeeper asked as he walked out the door.
Stephen just smiled.

The storm came from nowhere. He should never have attempted his boat's maiden voyage alone. The sea grew choppier. Suddenly he heard a woman's cries. He spotted her long blonde hair as she sank beneath the waves and without a thought for his own safety, he dived in.
The mermaid smiled, another handsome man to add to her collection.

Alan was ready to face his ex-wife Claire's new man. It would give him closure he thought to himself. He was seated in the pub waiting for them, pint in hand. Not that he needed to steady his nerves, he was totally over her. They walked in hand in hand.
Alan looked up. 'Hello Claire, Hello Dad' he said.

Emily sat in her chair and looked at the decorations around her. It was her birthday she had been told. She ate the bowl of mashed food that was fed to her and then yawned.
'Time for your nap birthday girl' said a familiar voice.
Emily smiled, a nap would be good, after all it was quite tiring being 100!

Sitting on warm sand, squinting at the brightness of the sun, inhaling the pungent smell of seaweed, she eats her soggy tomato sandwiches and drinks the flat, warm orange. Even the gritty texture of sand, lodged in the bread, doesn't take from the feeling that this is probably the best day yet of her seven years of life.

Mum told me the world was full of people who could hurt me. She told me to stay close. But I lost Mum ...and now HE's out there. I can see his shadow and his cruel, dark eyes. I'll just crouch here quietly...ooh...it's safe.
'Mum... Mum...'
The tiny duckling shimmied across the lake. The fox had gone.
