Accidents & Injuries
www.caniclaim.com - The site is devoted entirely to helping those who have been injured in an accident or are the victims of medical incompetence. Detailed information and links, plus a simple online form to find out if its worth pursuing your claim (75 percent of people never even bother to find out).
www.medicalclaims.co.uk - A new website with free information for those who have suffered injury as a result of a medical accident. The site is run by Medical Litigation - a monthly medico-legal journal, which has its own site at www.medneg.com (this is more for the lawyers amongst you)
Case Law & Statutes
www.bailii.org - This site is the first attempt to try and put "the law" ie cases and statute, on the internet for free. It follows, and uses, an Australian system, and currently has cases in England & Wales in the Court of Appeal and High Court from 1996 onwards and UK legislation from 1996 onwards. A developing legal resource site.
www.hmso.gov.uk/acts - The Government's official website which now gives the full text of all Acts passed since 1988.
www.homeoffoce.gov.ukWell we couldn't let the passing of the Human Rights Act pass without a link to the Government's official site telling us how we can now complain that they are not doing their job properly.
.
Consumer Issues
www.adviceguide.org.uk - This is the rather strangely named site of the Citizens Advice Bureau, but once you have found it the information is excellent. The emphasis, of course, is on consumer issues and they provide some very good basic info in this area.
www.tradingstandards.gov.uk class - Government regulation and enforcement measures to protect the consumer.
TSnet is apparently the longest established trading standards and consumer protection web guide, online since April 1996. If you visit the site you will find legislation, help pages, faqs, recalls, current issues, careers advice, links to all authorities, a messageboard with over 14,000 hits a month, email newsletter and much more!!
Court Procedures
www.courtservice.gov.uk - This is the revamped Court Service website, which is actually well worth a look. You can find Court listings, judgments, court forms, fees and some useful leaflets, such as those on the divorce procedure.
www.employmentcomplaints.com - Provides some useful information about proceedings in the Employment Tribunal
Data Protection
www.dataprotection.gov.uk - This is the new site of the Data Protection Registrar, so if you want to know what your new rights are in respect of information held about you under the new Data Protection Act, then this is the place to go.
Disabilities
www.disability This Government site is a bit dry and uninspiring, but there is some useful information for those who are disabled, or who work for and with the disabled. The site has sections on the New Deal for Disabled People, the Disability Rights Taskforce and the Disability Discrimination Act.
Mediation Services
www.consensus.uk.com - Commercial mediation over the internet via Consensus Mediation's new e-Mediator service. If both parties agree to the process this could be a quick and cheap way to resolve those annoying little disputes, which tend to escalate out of all proportion to their "real" value.
Wills & Probate Issues
www.publictrust.gov.uk - Deals with the work of the Public Trust Office, and in particular Enduring Powers of Attorney
