Easter craft idea 2: Circle of life

With Easter just around the corner, use twigs and flowers from your garden to make this beautiful wreath

Perfect for hanging on a door or wall, or even placed flat as a centrepiece on the dinner table, it's really easy to craft and the materials cost next to nothing.

Get the kids involved - they'll love rummaging around the garden in search of twigs. Blowing eggs is always great fun, too, if a bit on the messy side. Here, we've blown the eggs by making two holes on the same side (see step 2).

  • You will need

    • Twigs from the garden (they'll need to be quite supple and of varying thicknesses)
    • Thin florist's wire and/or vine from the garden - passion flower vine is ideal
    • Pliers (to cut wire)
    • Needle
    • 5 fresh eggs (wash them first)
    • Drinking straw
    • Bowl
    • Greenery and spring flowers from the garden

    1. Gather a bundle of twigs, about 60cm long, and bind it with short pieces of wire at intervals. Bend the bundle to form an open circle and fasten the ends with wire. To keep the twigs neatly together, wrap more wire or vine around them. 2. Using a needle, make two holes in the long side of each egg. Poke the needle into one of the holes to pierce the yolk. Use a straw to blow into one hole, so the white and yolk come out of the other. Fill the eggs with clean water and blow out again. 3.Thread a short length of wire through the holes in each egg and attach them to the wreath. The blown eggs will be delicate, so be careful not to break them. This part of the process can be a bit fiddly, so take your time.
    4. Push greenery and spring flowers into gaps between the twigs. We used wispy jasmine foliage, sprigs of pittosporum and delicate narcissi, although eucalyptus and small hyacinths would look just as pretty.
