Sarah Jessica Parker - Carrie Bradshaw

Famous Carrie quote: 'The only thing I've ever successfully made in the kitchen is a mess, and several small fires.'

Following the birth of her son James, with Michael Broderick in 2002, Sarah has been content to concentrate mainly on her family.

'I don't think there's enough time for anything else,' says the 41-year-old. 'Days will pass and I haven't had a chance to have a shower. I have a child and his needs are simply more important and that's a wonderful burden.'

With James now at school, Sarah is slowly getting back into the swing of things with the launch of her own fashion label, called Bitten, and four movies lined up.

Kim Cattrall - Samantha Jones

Famous Samantha quote: 'You men have no idea what we're dealing with down there. Teeth placement and jaw stress and suction and gag reflex and all the while bobbing up and down, moaning and trying to breathe through our noses. Easy? Honey, they don't call it a job for nothing!'

Kim played man-eater Samantha for so long it came as no surprise that she had trouble separating herself from the role. Having divorced from husband Mark Levinson shortly before the end of the final series, she admitted to becoming a little like her famous character.

'I'm feeling pretty good right now,' she said after leaving the show. 'I'm exploring being single and trying to find fulfillment. Thankfully, I have this amazing character, Samantha, behind me. Now I'm more outrageous, I'm really enjoying it.'

Kim found love again with top New York chef Alan Wise, but has failed to hit the high notes again in the acting world and went back to basics with a successful stint on the London stage. Sex is still a big part of her life. In 2005 she wrote her own self-help book, Sexually Intelligent, and produced a TV show on the female orgasm.

Kristin Davis - Charlotte York

Still single at 42, it seems Kristin is intent on finding her own leading man than forging an acting career. Oh, and he's got to be famous.

'I once dated someone who's an actor, yet not hugely famous, and when I took him to premieres it was difficult,' she says. 'Photographers would want to take pictures of me and yell at him, "Move! You're in the way!" The colour would drain out of his face and my heart would break. I need a famous man like Sarah has Matthew.'

Steve Martin is the latest famous man to have been linked to the sexy star but, in terms of her movie career, there hasn't been a great deal of note for Kristin. Family comedies The Shaggy Dog and Deck the Halls have just about kept her in the public eye but her biggest achievement since her days with the girls has been her lucrative contract with make-up giant Maybelline.

Cynthia Nixon - Miranda Hobbs

The bright lights of Broadway beckoned Cynthia back to the stage and she had a long break from TV and films. She still received her fair share of the limelight though, due to her having left her partner, Danny Mozes, for a woman.

'I never felt like there was an unconscious part of me around that woke up or that came out of the closet,' says Cynthia of her lesbianism. 'There wasn't a struggle, there wasn't an attempt to suppress. I met this woman, I fell in love with her, and I'm a public figure.'

The 40-year-old has also has four-year-old son Charles and daughter Samantha, 10, to keep her busy. 'Motherhood is the only thing in my life that I've really known for sure is something I wanted to do,' she adds.
