Should scouts get sex advice?

The Scout Association is bringing in new guidance following requests from scout leaders on how to deal with members who are seeking advice on sex and relationships. Do you think free condoms and 'how to say no' role plays should become as much a part of scouting as camping and compass skills?

The main focus of the guidance is to be directed at the explorer scouts, aged 14 to 18, but leaders of scouts aged 10 to 14 are told youngsters may seek advice and should be given information and suitable local contacts.

Speaking to the BBC, Minister for Young People Beverley Hughes welcomed the new initiative saying: 'This guidance underlines the consensus among young people, parents and professionals on the importance of providing accurate information and advice on sex and relationships.'

Is your child a member of the scouts? Do you think it is the right forum for this kind of advice, or do you think schools should be doing more? Maybe you're a scout leader and feel uncomfortable giving out sex advice. Whatever your thoughts about this subject, we want to hear them.
