Krista’s birth story

krista & childrenEach month we feature a birth story from the iVillage message board. Here Krista describes the arrival of her daughter, Jeana

I went to the hospital for a routine scan at 22 weeks and when the picture came up on the screen, I knew something was wrong. A doctor was called and he proceeded to tell me that I had very little water in the uterus surrounding the baby, and that I was leaking amniotic fluid. He didn’t think there was much chance of saving the baby because I had been leaking fluid for two or three weeks.

It was a terrible shock because I thought I was having accidents during the night and never suspected that anything was wrong.

They asked us to terminate the pregnancy but my husband and I agreed that it wasn't our decision, only God can make that choice.

So I stayed in bed, resting for eight and a half weeks and my daughter was born at 30 weeks gestation, a very, very sick baby. Her lungs were underdeveloped but after two months of medical care, Jeana was able to come home. She needed oxygen and we had monitors to check her condition for the next three months. She still has physiotherapy and occupational therapy because of her restricted movement, but she’s a very healthy 16-month-old and every day I praise the Lord that’s she’s alive and with us.

If you’d like to tell us about your experience of giving birth please post your story on our message board.
