Wine of the Week: James Herrick Chardonnay

With over a tenner’s-worth of taste for under £4, you can’t go wrong with this crispy French Chardonnay.

Wine of the WeekSomerfield have one of the best wine buyers in the country. Angela Mount is known throughout the trade not only for her prowess in tasting, but also for her negotiation skills. Somerfield customers can take advantage of these by watching out for their brilliant offers.

The wine of the week is Somerfield’s James Herrick Chardonnay 1999, which is at the promotional price of £3.99 rather than £4.99 until 18th September 2001. It’s produced in the south of France by a very sexy, attractive Englishman, who also makes really good wine to boot - and I promise that’s what I thought before I clapped eyes on him!

Despite the connection with the south of France, this wine tastes like a Chablis from Burgundy. It also tastes like it should cost three times the price. It’s dry, crisp and stylish, and makes for a good aperitif. It also complements roast chicken, turkey and grilled white fish.
