Getting hitched in 2006

brad pitt and angelina jolie Everybody loves a wedding - especially when it's an over-the-top showbiz affair. This coming year we will see a whole galaxy of stars racing to get down the aisle first. Here's your invite to the hottest weddings in 2006 - the blushing brides, the gorgeous grooms and their secret plans for their special day

The big 'I do's'

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Courtship: There's little we don't know about Tom's wooing of his young bride-to-be. The 43-year-old War of the Worlds star has treated his romance with 25-year-old Katie like a reality show. From their early date in Rome to his proposal on top of the Eiffel tower and his over-the-top declaration of love from Oprah's sofa.
Ceremony: If Tom has his way (which he usually does), he will marry his pregnant fiancee at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles. 'He is a diehard Scientologist,' says an insider. 'He wants Katie to be part of his belief system.' But if he really wants to make his bride's day, it'll be a beach affair on the Maroma Resort and Spa on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, where she and Tom spent a holiday. 'They spent a romantic few days there,' says a source, 'and both were impressed by the beauty of the place.'
Dress: Giorgio Armani will design Katie's dress. A source has reported: 'Tom has a great relationship with Giorgio Armani. Most of the clothes you see him and Katie wearing come from Armani personally. Tom asked Giorgio to design the dress especially and he has had Katie in for several fittings. It's unusual for the groom to have a say in the dress but he has had a lot of input.'
Guest list: Tom's most famous ex-wife Nicole Kidman along with their adopted kids Connor and Isabelle will be there. Also lining the groom's side of the aisle will be Steven Spielberg, John Travolta, David and Victoria Beckham, Renee Zellweger, Penelope Cruz, and Paul Newman. On Katie's side, expect her old Dawson' s Creek pals James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson along with a gaggle of her old school friends.
Definitely not invited: Katie's bitter ex-fiance Chris Klein as well as Tom's long list of disgruntled fellow celeb dates' including Scarlett Johansson and Brooke Shields.
Honeymoon: A top secret tour of Europe's hot spots including an emotional return to Paris and Rome.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Courtship: They met playing husband and wife in Mr & Mrs Smith, now the hottest couple in showbiz are about to do it for real. The months of stealth and secrecy are over and Brad and Angelina are about to make it official.
Ceremony: Both have done it before of course but that won't make this wedding day any less special - or weird! The wedding venue is top secret of course but there is talk of the couple doing there own version of The Italian Job with a romantic trip to Lake Como and George Clooney's hideaway. 'People have said they are going to get married at my house,' admits long-time Brad pal George. 'All I can tell you is there's not going to be a secret wedding.' Well, he's not going to spoil the surprise, is he??
Dress: For her first wedding ceremony in 1996 to Jonny Lee Miller, Angelina wore black leather pants and a white shirt. On the back of her shirt in her own blood, she wrote her husband's name. In 2000, at her Las Vegas wedding chapel ceremony to Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, Angelina Jolie wore faded blue jeans and a lilac-coloured sleeveless top. The couple then exchanged vials of their own blood. So expect Angelina to walk down the aisle casual, if a little bloody!
Guest list: Brad's pals George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Angelina will have ex-Jonny Lee Miller as well as actor father Jon Voight as part of their reconciliation.
Definitely not invited: Jennifer Aniston and Billy Bob Thornton for obvious reasons.
Honeymoon: An African adventure in Kenya, where the couple have already enjoyed a passionate romantic break, and a second leg in Cambodia, where Angelina's adopted son Maddox was born.

Kelly Brook and Billy Zane

Courtship: Kelly was perfectly happy with her Lock Stock fella Jason Statham until the bright lights of Hollywood and her hunky co-star in the movie Three changed all that. 'Sometimes you don't know what you want until it hits you,' she says of dumping Jason for Billy. 'The love I had for this man and the love Billy had for me - it just took over,' she adds. The couple were soon spotted arm-in-arm in St Tropez and on intimate dates in LA. 'Billy's lovely,' she says. 'He's romanced me beyond my dreams.'
Ceremony: It appears the lovebirds have chosen The Blazing Donkey pub as the place were they will be joined in matrimony. The village pub and hotel is situated in Ham, near Kent - just a short distance from Kelly's home town of Rochester. The two stars recently toured the property, which offers 20 guest rooms, four-poster rooms and a bridal suite, and are thought to have booked the venue for a wedding scheduled for the summer of 2006.
Dress: 'I'm a girly girl so I've always dreamed of the whole fairytale white dress,' says Kelly, who is rumoured to have already picked out an outfit worthy of her big day.
Guest list: Few stars but plenty of friends and family. Kelly will have the whole Brook clan in the aisles along with showbiz pals Patrick Kielty and former fiance Jason Statham. 'If he wants to come to the wedding, he's more than welcome,' she says. 'We're still very good friends.'
Definitely not invited: Any of the many who called Kelly 'dumb' before she was axed as a Big Breakfast presenter four years ago.
Honeymoon: Greece. 'We love it there,' says Kelly.

Wayne Rooney and Colleen McLoughlin

Courtship: They grew up living only a few streets apart and were an item long before Wayne scored a £50,000 per week contract with Manchester United. But Wayne is a down-to-earth guy when it comes to romance. He proposed to Colleen on a petrol station forecourt in Liverpool last year, slipping a £25,000 diamond and platinum ring on her finger.
Ceremony: It'll be a traditional Scouse wedding - lots of family and friends and almost inevitably a good old punch up. That will certainly be the case if Wayne's 18th birthday bash is anything to go by. For the event, the footballer threw a party in a hotel to which, after putting £10,000 behind the bar, he invited large numbers of his extended Liverpool-Irish family. The evening ended in a mass chav-brawl between the Rooneys and the McLoughlins, and a stand-up row between the young couple's respective mothers over who was to blame.
Dress: If Burberry did wedding gowns then Colleen would have one. Until then, it's back down to Knightsbridge for another shopping spree.
Guest list: David and Victoria Beckham, Wayne's Manchester United teammates and boss Alex Ferguson mixing it with the bride and groom's street mates.
Definitely not invited: Referees - Wayne just doesn't get on with them. Also the PVC-clad, chainsmoking grandmother, affectionately known to her customers (most notably Wayne) as 'the auld slapper'.
Honeymoon: Their romantic trip to the Caribbean will have to wait until after Wayne's World Cup mission in Germany for England.

We predict?

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
Another year, another maybe for reluctant groom Harrison.

Leonardo Dicaprio and Giselle Bundchen
Just as likely to break up (again) as get hitched.

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake
Still together despite the age gap but 2006 won't be their year to tie the knot. A long engagement is on the cards.

Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey
The Sahara stars might just surprise us all and head into the desert for a secret wedding.

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend
Monster star Charlize and her Irish actor beau say they are happy as they are but this could be the year they finally make it official.
