| Knit a 'Drama Queen' mohair cardigan
You will need5 [6:6:6:7:7] x 25g balls of Sublime kid mohair in shade 025 fig.1 pair of 5mm (UK6 - USA8) Knitting Needles (or the size required to give the correct tension). 2 metres of wide Ribbon.
TensionPlease take a little time now to knit a stocking stitch tension square. Using 5mm needles cast on 19 stitches and work 25 rows in stocking stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl). This should now measure 10cm, (4in) square.

BackCast on 68 [74:78:84:90:94] sts.1st Row. (this will be the right side of the work - rs) Knit. 2nd Row Purl. Continue in stocking stitch for the remainder of the back as follows:- Work 47 rows inc 1 st at each end of 11th, 23rd, 35th and 47th rows. This will give you 8 stitches more and you will now have 76 [82:86:92:98:102] sts on the needle. Work without shaping until back measures 24 [26:26:26:27:28]cm, (9 1/2 [10 1/4:10 1/4:10 1/4:10 3/4:11]in), finishing after a purl row, so that the right side of work faces you for the beginning of the armhole shaping. If you want to lengthen or shorten the body, this is the place to do it. If you are working at the correct tension you will need to work 11 [15:15:15:19:23] rows without shaping to bring the length up to 24 [26:26:26:27:28]cm, (9 1/2 [10 1/4:10 1/4:10 1/4:10 3/4:11]in). If a longer length is required work an even number of rows more at this point, if a shorter length is required work an even number of rows less. The back should measure approximately 40 [43:45:48:51:54]cm, (15 3/4 [17:17 3/4:19:20:21 1/4]in) across at this point.
Shape ArmholesWork 7 [7:8:8:8:10] rows decreasing 1 st at each end of every row. You will now have 62 [68:70:76:82:82] sts on your needle.Work 1 [1:0:0:0:0] rows without shaping. Work on these 62 [68:70:76:82:82] sts until the armholes measure 18 [18:19:20:21:22]cm, (7 [7:7 1/2:8: 8 1/4:8 3/4]in), straight down from top of the needle to the beginning of the armhole shaping (don't measure around the curve). If you are working at the correct tension this will be 38 [38:40:42:44:44] rows without shaping. (46 [46:48:50:52:54] rows in all). Next Row. K16 [19:20:23:26:26], (k2tog, yfwd, k2) 7 times, yfwd, k2tog, k16 [19:20:23:26:26]. Work 3 rows.
Shape ShouldersCast off 8 [9:10:10:12:12] sts at beginning of next 2 rows. You will now have 46 [50:50:56:58:58] sts on the needle.Cast off 8 [10:10:11:12:12] sts at beginning of next 2 rows. You will now have 30 [30:30:34:34:34] sts on the needle. Cast off remaining 30 [30:30:34:34:34] sts.
Left frontCast on 14 [16:19:25:26:25] sts.1st Row. (this will be the right side of the work - rs). Knit. 2nd Row. P3, inc in next st, (front edge) purl to end. You will now have 15 [17:20:26:27:26] sts on the needle. 3rd Row. Knit to last 5 sts, inc in next st, k4. You will now have 16 [18:21:27:28:27] sts on the needle. 4th Row. Sleeves (Both alike)Cast on 53 [53:57:57:59:59] sts.Working in stocking stitch proceed as follows:- Work 38 rows decreasing 1 st at each end of 9th, 23rd and 37th row (there will be 13 rows straight between each decrease row). You will now have 47 [47:51:51:53:53] sts on the needle. Work 19 [19:19:19:43:9] rows inc 1 st at each end of 1st and every following 6th [6th:6th:6th:6th:4th] row (there will be 5 [5:5:5:5:3] rows straight between each increase row). You will now have 55 [55:59: 59:69:59] sts on the needle. Work 40 [48:48:48:24:60] rows inc 1 st at each end of 8th [8th:8th:8th:8th:6th] and every following 8th [8th:8th:8th:8th:6th] row (there will be 7 [7:7:7:7:5] rows straight between each increase row). You will now have 65 [67:71:71:75:79] sts on the needle. The sleeve should measure approximately 34 [35:37:37:39:42]cm (13 1/2 [13 3/4:14 1/2:14 1/2:15 1/2:16 1/2]in) across at this point. Work without further shaping until the sleeve is 43 [46:46:46:46:47]cm, (17 [18:18:18:18:18 1/2]in), working at the correct tension you will need to work 9 rows without shaping to bring the sleeve to the correct length. If a longer length is required work an even number if rows more at this point, if a shorter length is required work an even number of rows less.
Shape Sleeve TopWork 7 [7:8:8:8:10] rows decreasing 1 st at each end of every row. You will now have 51 [53:55:55:59:59] sts on the needle.Place a marker thread at each end of last row. These 7 [7:8:8:8:10] rows will match to the 7 [7:8:8:8:10] decrease rows on the body when sewing the sleeve into the armholes. Work 1 [1:0:0:0:0] rows without shaping. Cast off 3 sts at beginning of each of the next 12 [12:12:12:8:8] rows. You will now have 15 [17:19:19:35:35] sts on the needle.
For 5th and 6th size onlyCast off 4 sts at beginning of each of the next 4 rows. You will now have 19 sts on the needle.
For all 6 sizesCast off remaining 15 [17:19:19:19:19] sts.
To make upJoin both shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew sleeve tops into armholes matching the 7 [7:8:8:8:10] decrease rows on the body to the 7 [7:8:8:8:10] decrease rows marked at the beginning of the sleeve top. Thread ribbon into first hole and thread along front of neck at right side, across back of neck, and along left front of neck, finish at the same hole in both sides, leave enough ribbon to tie a bow. Pin out to the measurement given and cover with damp cloths until dry (refer to page 9). See ball band for washing and further care instructions. |
