The Community Awards 2009

The iVillage.co.uk Community Awards 2009, is an official recognition of men and women who have changed their own or others' lives for the better during 2008

This is the second year of the Awards which started when iVillage realised the incredible levels of activity, support and resourcefulness shown by many women from the site's community.

This year's Awards are open for entries with iVillage posting a call-out on the 250 boards currently active on the site. Where last years awards were closed to the community only, this year users will be able to vote for friends and family who are not part of the iVillage community.

The five categories

The Community Awards will recognise men and women who have made outstanding achievements in the following five categories:

• Best Friend Award: Show appreciation for a friend that you can always rely on to instantly put a smile on your face if you're feeling down, offer you honest advice and unconditional support.
• Mum of the Year Award: Recognise a mother who inspires her children and those around her to live life to the fullest and realise their dreams, who has herself overcome adversity.
• Husband/Man of the year Award: Honour a man who has a positive outlook on life, with a loving attitude towards his friends and family who is helpful to others in times of need and always approachable and willing to go the extra mile.
• Good Citizen Award: Acknowledge an inspirational individual who has positively influenced change in their community to the benefit of those around them.
• Most Charitable Award: Show gratitude to an individual who has selflessly dedicated much of their life to helping a cause and in turn making a real difference to another's life.

Last year saw extraordinary and courageous stories of women who have struggled in life, fighting tough and long personal battles, or women have dedicated their lives to caring for others.
