Does a kiss count as cheating?
Is a kiss ever innocent - even if it's just a drunken snog?
A kiss is just a kiss? On the face of it, yes - but you have to look at what a kiss really means.
If it's perfunctory, non-passionate and simply courteous then of course it's not a problem. If it's a statement of affection from friend-to-friend, then even if it's a smacker under the mistletoe, it's innocent.
But where you get into deep water is when a kiss means more than courtesy or friendship. So if you know for sure that you are attracted to the person you're kissing, then you're making a statement by going ahead. What are you saying by this? What are you telling him? What are you telling your partner?
And, even if your feelings are utterly innocent, what would your partner think if he or she knew? Would they feel at ease? Relaxed? Amused? Or worried and jealous? If the latter is the answer, then you're guilty of betrayal.
'But he'll never find out' is not a good answer. If you're hiding stuff from your man, you're already betraying him.
The bottom line is that anything is fine - even much more than a kiss - if you and your partner agree that it's permissible. But if you don't agree, if you feel guilty or you know your partner would feel angry, then a kiss is a betrayal, no question.
