I'm 20 and have been seeing someone for just over a year. Until recently, the relationship has been quite casual, but last week we finally admitted we felt seriously about each other. Then over the weekend I slept with another man because I can't control myself when I am drunk. My boyfriend finished with me when he found out and I'm heartbroken. It was a silly, drunken mistake. How can I get him back? I now realise how much I love him.

Your problem is one of timing. If you had strayed at any point over the last year when your relationship with your boyfriend was on a casual footing, it would have been unfortunate but not critical. But then you both made a commitment to each other. I expect he thought that counted for something. Obviously not.
Being drunk can weaken your willpower, but one of the things that generally makes it easier is that when you are madly in love, you are less likely to be in a situation that might lead to such a difficulty. Ask yourself whether you really want this relationship - a year seems a long time for you to take to make up your mind. At any rate, your only hope of getting your boyfriend back is to write him a letter explaining that you made a mistake and you're very sorry. Grovel. A lot.
