Going through a dating dry spell

by Sherry Amatenstein

question
Dear Sherry
During my twenties, my phone never stopped ringing. I'm 38 now, and it's been nearly a year since I've gone on a date. That's a massive dry spell. Any advice?
Pam

answer
Dear Pam
True, it's often easier to meet people when we're younger - mostly because we're out and about more. As we mature, we move out of ‘party mode’, spend more time at work and at home and tend to go out less. To break the dry spell you've got to push yourself to get out there: take up new interests, go to parties, meet friends for lunch and once you're out there, act positive. Are you warm and friendly, or sending out vibes that if someone approaches you, he's talking to the wrong woman? Tell everyone you know that you're interested in meeting someone. Consider joining a dating service or writing a personal advert.

The other thing to look into is the type of man you find attractive. Do you still lust after Adonis types with perfect physiques, or are you open to the possibility that there can be something sexy about a 40-year-old banker with a balding head and bulging belly?

Seek and you shall eventually find. Good luck.
