Dear Sally Ann,
I'm so grateful not to be dating. I'm happy being single, studying and working towards future goals. Why do I feel so strong, and yet pick up on people who don't really know what they want but think they need to be in a relationship? Am I the only one who thinks like this?

Dear Maria
What a refreshing letter. Go girl. Being happily single is wonderful, and it can be very liberating. As you say, it gives you the freedom to pursue your work and enjoy your life from a position of strength. There is nothing more time-consuming than a boyfriend, and many women's lives collapse under the weight.

Most people don't know what they want to do in life, so they drift around thinking that a relationship will fill this void of uncertainty. They think that being involved with someone will be easier than making their own life decisions, which of course, isn't true. A relationship is a part of life, not a replacement for one. You are a sensible person and one of very few who works all this out at a young age. When you do meet someone you like, you will know how to handle yourself.
