The ideal Christmas
Have the Christmas you really want this year. Life Coach Caro Handley shows us how to do it How often does Christmas match up to your fantasy of what it should be like? Do you imagine fun, family, friendship, laughter, great food, exciting presents, exquisite decorations, crackling fires and mistletoe? And do you somehow end up feeling it was a let-down and that what you actually got was stress, friction, pressure, endless rushing and disappointment? Well how about doing it differently this year and having the Christmas you really want?
If you think this sounds selfish, and that Christmas should involve putting others first, then think again. Because if you give yourself what you want - and deserve - then you'll be in a far better position to give generously, from the heart, to others. True generosity of spirit is what Christmas is really about. Not the kind of giving which is done with gritted teeth and 'duty' written all over it, but the kind that is a genuine pleasure. And this generosity of spirit comes easily to those who are at peace with themselves, who feel good about who they are and who aren't afraid to treat themselves well.
So let's begin with the question: What is your ideal Christmas?
Throw out the preconceived ideas, the 'oughts' and 'should dos' and think for ten minutes about what you'd really like. Is it to be alone with your man under your own private bunch of mistletoe? Is it a big family get-together, or a party for all your favourite friends? Or do you want to travel and experience Christmas somewhere else? Once you know what it is, start planning.
