Amazing women
To celebrate International Women's Day 2007, we're launching the iVillage Amazing Women campaign
We'll be asking you to nominate your own 'Amazing Woman', whether she's a relative, a friend, a colleague or just someone you feel is deserving of the accolade. Here are some of the iVillage team's own nominations.
Clare's mum
My Mum is the most amazing woman I know. She seems to have an incredible sixth sense that knows when one of us is having a wobble and will suddenly turn up on the doorstep with tea and tissues. She is my best friend, and the adage 'mother knows best' is rarely wrong when applied to her.
When I remember my childhood, whether it be learning to ride a horse or play the violin, mum has always been somewhere in the background, either standing in the snow and rain, or sitting without flinching while everyone else is wincing along to 'Frere Jacques'. She is a grafter, running a London office and also raising lots of money for various charities and I am very proud to be both her daughter and her friend.

Peggy's mum
I'd like to nominate my lovely mum please. Not because she's had to overcome any huge struggles, or because she's perfect, but because she's one of most genuine and gentle-hearted people I've ever met.
We spend hours on end getting lost in chats about film and theatre, her thoughts and views are always challenging, and she's always got a thirst to get out there and discover more about everything. She's fiercely independent but unfailingly loyal to friends and family. She thinks I'm the bee's knees but actually if I turn out to be a fraction of what she is by her age I'll be chuffed.

Alex's mum
I'd like to nominate my mum. Quite apart from the obvious birth thing, she's pretty good at 'mothering'.
When I was little, she used to ferry me around to all my friends' houses; spent hours helping me with my pony, including doing most of the grooming and mucking out as I found out pretty soon that I was allergic to my four-legged friend; took me shopping and let me develop my own unique 'teen-goth' style without saying a word, plus countless other little things.
I'm all grown up now and have moved away, but she still worries about me, counsels me and helps me out whenever she can. She tells me I'm skinny when I'm feeling fat, cheers me up when I'm feeling gloomy and, best of all, I know she's always there for me whatever happens.
Alex
