iVillage brides - Lynne and Paul

Not wanting a traditional church wedding, iVillage member
cl-lynne3490 (Lynne) and her fiance Paul jetted off to Jamaica for their special day. Here's what she had to say about her big day

I always said I would get married abroad. I get quite emotional at weddings and can think of nothing worse than walking down the aisle with everyone watching. It's not for me!

Paul and I got together in December 1997. We'd only been going out for five months when he proposed. I was a bit worried that things were moving too quickly, so we waited until my 26th birthday in September 1998 to announce our engagement. I told him I wanted to get married abroad and he was all for it and we decided to wed in July 2001.

In the meantime, my mother was ill with cancer, and was quite gutted that I didn't choose to have a big church wedding. I liked the idea of getting married in Las Vegas. There's no time to get emotional, but I always wanted wedding photographs on the beach.

Sadly, my mother died in December 1999. She knew she wouldn't live to see my wedding and had saved money for our day. I'm an only child, so she also left money for my Dad to come with us. We decided to bring the wedding forward and set the date for June 2nd 2000.

We chose Jamaica as our wedding destination. The hotel was FABULOUS! It's the biggest hotel on the island - and an all-inclusive 5-star hotel, part of the Marriott chain. On Millennium Eve I asked my aunt and uncle if they'd like to join us. They jumped at the chance. My aunt took on a mother role and was a great help, coming to dress fittings and helping to organise the holiday.
