Dating dilemmas dissected

A brand new dating survey by iVillage's dating partner, DatingDirect.com, reveals that a staggering 84 per cent of single Brits struggle to find a date

Gone are the days when women felt the pressure to find Mr Right. They are just looking for Mr Right Now, as they take charge in the 21st-century dating game. The DatingDirect.com study revealed that 80 per cent of women don't expect men to make the first move, preferring to take matters into their own hands - playing the same game, just with new rules.

As the dating tables turn, it seems that over half of women would expect to pay their own way on a first date and over 67 per cent think that dating exclusively is just 'so last season', compared to 59 per cent of men. The Sex and the City philosophy hasn't been forgotten; 42 per cent of women look for just 'sex and a bit fun' in a relationship.

Even though the 21st-century dating rules are changing, when it comes to that first date, singletons need to ensure that they are a scent sensation, as it seems that nasty whiffs top the turn-offs for both men and women.

It's apparent that Brits really will do anything for love, with over a third agreeing they'd move abroad to find a perfect date. When it comes to the search for love, 12 per cent of the population would go as far as to stop speaking to their mum - their own flesh and blood! Notably, it's the men (64 per cent), that have revealed they would take the greatest steps and are more willing to sacrifice something for love, compared to just 29 per cent of women.
