Mission impossible?

In response to one sexually inexperienced member's fear of trying out new positions with her boyfriend, here's a combination of inspirational thoughts and instruction from other iVillagers

There isn't a right or wrong way to have sex. There are some techniques and positions that work better than others, but the most important ingredients for good sex are relaxing and letting yourself go.

Sex can be wild and energetic, or soft and subtle - very small, slight movements can have a powerful effect. Either way, good sex is spontaneous. A lot depends on your flexibility and your imagination.

As you become more sexually experienced, you'll get to know what turns you on and off and you will feel braver experimenting with each other. But first, start with these positions.

The beginner's guide to a basic sexual repertoire

  1. Some people don't find the missionary position that fulfilling, but it's basic and a good place to start. The woman lies on her back, with her legs apart, and the man lies on top of her. If you get your legs in the air that will liven things up - the rest is up to you.

  2. If you fancy getting on top and he keeps slipping out, try putting a pillow underneath him. This will raise his vitals, making it easier for you to sit on his penis with your knees bent. A good technique to prevent him from flopping out is to lean forward and just move from the waist. It also gives the clitoris a workout. If you get this position right, your boobs will probably amuse him.

A variation of this is to get him to sit on the end of the bed, sofa, wherever, and for you to sit on his lap with your legs around his waist. You may find this a bit tricky, depending on his penis size.
