Is there any realism in porn films?

by Dr Patti Britton

question
Dear Dr Patti
My husband has never criticised my performance but I feel I should learn more techniques. I've watched porn videos, but watching the professionals makes me feel even more inadequate. I don't know where to start to get better in bed. Can you suggest anything?
L

answer
Dear L
Thanks for your interesting question. I love it that you took the initiative in finding ways to enhance your abilities as a good lover. However, you are looking for gold in a bog. I am an advocate of porn and other erotica, but this is not how to learn to be a lover. On the contrary, the performance shown in porn videos is so far away from real sexual expression that you may have to forget what you have seen. Porn is created and edited to show scenes of extraordinary sex play, usually between couples and often of individuals performing masturbation. Not only are the women acting and not really experiencing pleasure in most scenes, but the actions are simulated, contrived and controlled to show what sometimes isn't even humanly possible. Use porn for your entertainment and arousal but not to learn new techniques. I suggest you look into another more educational realm of sex videos, such as Anne Hooper’s Ultimate Sex Guide.
