Do men really think about sex all the time?

by Mr Answer Man
Of course not – they often think about football and beer as well. Seriously though, while it’s often quoted that men think about sex every six seconds, you can rest assured this is an exaggeration.

Men certainly do spend a proportion of the day imagining what it would be like sleeping with the girl in the sandwich shop around the corner, but we’re not as obsessed with sex as most women believe. I’d say that men think idly about sex at regular intervals throughout an average day. Not persistently, but in brief flashes. And basically, our sexual imagination tends to tick over largely when we’re bored.

When men think about sex, they do so in a fairly innocent, harmless way. Rarely do I find myself harbouring explicit, porno-movie style thoughts about the woman standing next to me in the bus queue – I’m more likely to think, ‘Mmm, nice bum,’ invent a mental image of what it would look like in the flesh, and then return to reading my paper.

Naturally it’s impossible to quantify exactly how often men daydream about sex but as a rule of thumb, ask yourself as a woman how many times you think about it and you’re probably almost there. One thing’s for sure, men spend a hell of a lot more time thinking about sex, than doing it.
